Jennifer Dent

Training and Development Committee - Co-Chair

Jennifer is a certified school counselor who has worked in Boone County Schools where she was a student, for 20 years. She received her BA in Counseling and her Masters in school counseling from Marshall University.

Jennifer is proud to serve the students of Boone County Schools as she lives and works in the community she grew up in. She has worked with all age groups as she was a substitute teacher while working on her Masters and has been a School Counselor at all programmatic levels; elementary, middle and high schools. She has worked with the GEAR-UP Grant for her schools since 2009 which assists students in preparing and planning for post-secondary education. She also has years of experience in Crisis Counseling, Program Design, and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES).  She most recently completed her degree in Educational Leadership and aspires to be an administrator in Boone County Schools.

Jennifer is a mom to two wonderful children, Jaden (16) and Pierce (12), who attend the school and feeder schools that she works in. Jaden is a Junior who plans to go in the medical field and attend BCTC to prepare for her future. Pierce is a 7th grader who loves weightlifting and excels in all areas of academics. Both make Jennifer very proud and keep life so very interesting, busy and so fun! She is also mom to a very needy, yet feisty Yorkie named Ollie. Jennifer was recently married in 2022 to John who is a Police Officer in Boone County. He has worked the last few years as the School Resource Officer for ALL Boone County Schools and also works the road when there isn’t school. For fun, Jennifer and John love to workout together and typically do that five to seven days a week. As a family, travel is always on the agenda, especially cruising in the Caribbean.

Jennifer is excited to have the opportunity to serve on the Inspiring Dreams Network Board for multiple reasons. She feels she brings an "in the trenches" perspective on the needs of students in our school systems and looks forward to being able to bring her experience and expertise with youth to the board as we grow our workshops to assist school and community staff and volunteers to better support youth.  She’s also excited to reap the benefits of a board filled with so many mental health experts to expand her knowledge and connections to use in her work as a school counselor.  Jennifer will also assistance in planning fundraising opportunities for IDN.
