Our Youth Development Resource Portal is being developed thanks to a grant from the Pallottine Foundation’s Healthy Communities Initiative.

PBS for PARENTS - FREE SELF-PACED ONLINE TRAINING

Focuses on ways to encourage good behavior. (provided by WVU)

This free course can be done on any device, at your own pace from the convenience of your preferred location. The course takes approximately 1- 1.5 hours to complete, but work completed can be saved and returned to if more time is needed. This course is ideal for parents, foster parents, kinship caregivers, and childcare providers. Participants will receive an overview on positive behavior support and learn a positive approach to teaching replacement behaviors. Participants will receive a certificate upon completion.

Other training opportunities through WVU for youth serving adults and parents

ANGER MANAGEMENT for YOUTH

A free, interactive training for youth to learn strategies to identify and cope with their anger in healthier ways and be the bigger person. No CEUs are available for this training as it is geared toward youth. A certificate of completion will be available.

SAFETY FIRST: EVIDENCE-BASED DRUG EDUCATION CURRICULUM FOR TEENS

"Safety First: Real Drug Education for Teens is the nation’s first harm reduction-based drug education curriculum for high school students. The free curriculum consists of 15 lessons that can be completed in a 45- to 50-minute class period."

KINDNESS

Kindness Curriculum - This book is available FREE through the West Virginia Assistive Technology System (WVATS) Loan Library and contains activities designed for caregivers to help children learn kindness and empathy to others

SUPPORTING THE MENTAL HEALTH NEEDS OF CHILDREN

The evolving mental health needs of children continue to capture the attention of our families, schools and communities. The WVDE is expanding access to resources to help address the social emotional well-being of all children.
